K&L information

The K&L is the Kellgren & Lawrence score[1]. Via classification[2], it allows the identification of the presence or not of osteo-arthitis and, in this last case, the evaluation of its severity.

It takes into account the following parameters:

  • The joint space narrowing
  • The presence or not of ostephytes and their size
  • The magniture of the scheloris
  • The bony deformity

Depending on the case, the patient will be classified in one of the five grades, according to K&L score. The following interpretation is then applicable:

  • Grade 0: None. There is no osteo-arthritis.
  • Grade 1: Doutful. There is a possible presence of osteo-arthritis.
  • Grade 2: Minimal. The osteo-arthritis is present, but not severe.
  • Grade 3: Moderate. The osteo-arthitis is present and the status is moderate.
  • Grade 4: Severe. The osteo-arthritis is present and its state is already advanced.
